Campfire Cuisine: Cooking while camping easy

When camping in the Sierra Mountains, San Francisco’s Robin Donovan and her husband picked a beautiful campsite near a river.

“The nearest town was 40 miles,” Donovan said. “The people at the next camp site, right about when we’d start cooking dinner, they’d drive off. They’d come back one hour later with bags from McDonald’s.”

Admission to Padre Island National Seashore is free Saturday

The regular $10 per car admission fee is being waived for National Public Lands Day. It’s a program of the National Environmental Education Foundation that gives visitors an chance to connect with the outdoors for healthy activities while learning more about stewardship of national parks and other federal lands, officials said.
