County opens camping shelters

CONYERS — Completion of three Adirondack camping shelters at South Rockdale Community Park is the latest in improvements to the park that is off the beaten path.

The Rockdale County Parks and Recreation Division is taking reservations for the shelters that open for use Oct. 15. The Adirondack shelters are three-sided wooden structures that allow campers to sleep off the ground and under cover of a roof. The shelters are similar to those found in national parks and along national hiking trails like the Appalachian Trail.
